Many Zimbabwean students drop out of school because their families can no longer afford tuition and the associated educational costs. This is an issue one American medical intern affiliated with Tiritose wanted to see change.
So, when you first arrive, particularly if it’s your first trip to Africa, everything is very different. The roads, the heat, the people, the environment and general ambience is a sense sensation. I felt quite disarmed being in Zimbabwe initially. I felt very different and a little disconcerted at the daunting venture that lay ahead.

October has been exceptionally dry. A local idiom designates the suffering of animals, vegetation, and people during the ‘suicide month’. The midlands has no other water to offer than the occasional small creeks, gradually stagnating under the road bridges between the small townships.
Over the past 2 months Zimbabwe has been hit with intermittent fuel shortages which have caused a few hiccups in the transport sector across the country. Motorists have had to sleep in queues in some cases just to get a chance to fill their tanks so that they don’t run out.
Tiritose attended a week-long summer camp in Marondera, held by the Let The Children Play Trust (LTCP). The camp is called Music That Matters and nurtures musical talents of young people, from giving vocal lessons to learning and playing instruments.

Rhino and Elephant Awareness Day by AWARE Trust. Tiritose was invited to help with the fundraising initiative for the endangered Rhino and Elephant, an event held at Old Georgians Sports Club. Tiritose helped with marketing the event, rounding up volunteers and carried out flash mobs with dancers from the Tamba Africa Ensemble at several shopping malls.
