Leave Only Your Footprints

All our programmes are designed with the locals in mind first and foremost, and then volunteers and interns come to fit into the local setup, which ensures that the programmes will continue beyond the stay of external partners and volunteers. The programmes and experiences are also designed to ensure our core value of knowledge exchange takes place seamlessly.
We denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who we are to beguiled demoralized by the charms of pleasures that moment, so we blinded desires, that they indignation.

– A Guide to Ethical Volunteering, Professionally Rewarding Internships & Studying Abroad –

Tiritose Sustainable Travel is the leading responsible travel provider in Zimbabwe, facilitating ethical volunteer opportunities in Africa, professionally rewarding internships & study abroad opportunities for students & youth from around the world. Tiritose means ‘we are together’ in the Zimbabwean Shona language.

While the majority of companies create a foundation once they make a profit, Tiritose Sustainable Travel is different. They started out as a non-profit organisation working on the frontlines of improving healthcare, conservation and business practices in Zimbabwe and subsequently established an enterprising arm in order to facilitate fundraising for our non-profit work.

A TRUE PIONEER OF RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL IN ZIMBABWE

Tiritose Sustainable Travel added an extra layer of accountability through certification bodies: Travelife & Fair-Trade Tourism. The certification process provided strict guidelines, covering all aspects throughout the tourism supply chain; including biodiversity, environment & wildlife issues, internal codes of conduct as well as the conduct of various fulfilment partners. Therefore, complying with the regulations of the UN-supported Global Sustainable Tourism Council Criteria for travel companies.

“As the first and only travel company in Zimbabwe to receive accreditation & certification from Travelife & Fair-Trade Tourism, we are proud pioneers of responsible travel in Africa”.

Wesley Maraire – Business Development Executive at Tiritose Sustainable Travel

MATCHING PASSION WITH PURPOSE

In order to fulfil their vision, Tiritose Sustainable Travel has gone about entering into agreements with local Zimbabwean organisations that lack the capacity to employ permanent staff. The organisation places volunteers at such organisations in order to give the organisations opportunities to employ permanent staff down the road once they build enough capacity.

The placements give both volunteers and companies time to share ideas and skills that will keep them growing and give everyone memories that last a lifetime. There is no better way to travel to a new destination & immerse yourself in the culture, hearts and minds of the locals like working side by side with them and bringing long-term solutions to challenges. Volunteers typically work Monday to Thursday and often have three day weekends, where Tiritose Sustainable Travel takes them to visit cultural & historical sites around the country, including white water rafting on the mighty Zambezi river; UNESCO Heritage Sites like the Great Zimbabwe Monument or the picturesque Eastern Highlands.

SERVICE & EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

Tiritose Sustainable Travel received endorsement from the Ministry of Higher & Tertiary Education, Science & Technology Development as the third-party provider of international exchange and facilitate exchanges for, and on behalf of institutions of higher learning in Zimbabwe. Through the study abroad programme, students studying at institutions around the world are able to enrol at a Zimbabwean institution for a semester or for a year, whilst taking credit-bearing courses. Over the last few years, the organisation has hosted students from Dirham University & University of Yorke in the United Kingdom, Ohio State University, Princeton University & University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the United States among others.

“I would encourage anyone planning to lead any study abroad programme to come visit Zimbabwe and find out what all there is to see. Any problems you face as a faculty leader, everyone here is there to help – We are very excited to continue to work with Tiritose next year…”

Jan Brooks – Lecturer: University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign – College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.
